Hi! This is the second time I post in this blog. I'll tell you a little bit about mobile phones..
Mobile phones, also called cell phones, were first invented in 1947, in USA. Reserchers discorvered that using cells (rage of service area) with frequency reuse they could increase the traffic capacity of mobile phones. These means you could call much further. However, they didn't have the technollogy to do that.
Until then, two-way radios, something similar to cell phones that origined them, were used only in vehicles, like taxicabs. With the first ones you couldn't even dial any numbers. Then they were modified, but they were sitll too heavy and exepnsive to be carried everywhere. But the first actual mobile phone was made in 1973 by Martin Cooper (who worked for Motorola), who also made the first call using a cell phone. It was very big and could only make calls. The first city to have mobile phone service was Chicago, with almost 2000 users, on the year 1977.
Cell phones have changed a lot since then. One of the biggest changes was SMS technollogy. Then, surprisingly fast, mobile phones started improving and acquiring different functions, like full-colour screen, ring tones, etc. Now, most of them have cameras, bluetooth, mp3 music players, enough memory to save documents, pictures, music and other stuff and can be conected to the Internet.
Cell phones are certainly one of the most important inventions of the 20th century. They changed the way we communicate (although I think the Internet increased communication much more), allowing us to talk to anyone from anywhere you are. It's a really useful invention, specially for emergencies. But it also has lots of disadvantages. First of all, you don't have much privacy. People can watch what you have in your phone (see your pictures or read your text messages) by just having simple programs. Cameras in cell phones are also a problem for privacy, because people can take pictures when you are unprepared. Other problem, according to some people, is that mobile phones have radiation that can harm humans. However, I don't think this is true. But a real problem I see in cell phones is "addicion" to them. You can see everyday that more and more people, specially teenagers and kids, are connected to them. They can't go out if they don't have their cell phones. Sharing ring tones all the time seems to be their fun for hours. If you don't have the lastest technollogy, you are "out". But on the other hand, I don't think taking the advantages of cell phones is bad or harming. In conclusion, I think cell phones are a good invention, as long as you don't depend on them!
I hope you liked it.
